Wildlife Watch V!!

Thursday afternoon I was upstairs making these (Happy Flag Day!) and I heard Eric and the Beastie Grrrlz go out on the front deck.  Then I heard what sounded like lots of stomping and every sound dogs make including, but not limited to, barking, whining, woofing, hooting, and honking.  Then I heard more stomping, the door open, and Eric holler "TARA!"  "Is everything OK?"  "THERE'S A BEAR CUB!"  "Are the dogs in?"  "YES!"

Yup. "Ours" was very light colored like this one.

Of course we didn't get our own photo, but the little black bear buddy looked like a lot like this.  At least from what I saw of its fuzzy baby bear bottom and back running off into the forest.  What Eric and the BGs saw though, was the little fella just on the other side of our fence!  So, more caution when we go out the door even in the middle of the day and the BGs will be keeping their bear bells.

  1. Oooooh baby bears!! Don'cha just wanna hold 'em and squeeze 'em and call 'em your own? Just don't let mama bear see you. Speaking of, I wonder where she was? She couldn't have been very far off. Time to start locking up your garbage cans!

  2. I hope/assume that mama was off in the forest and not in our yard. We did some scanning of the area and did not see or hear her or any siblings. Luckily, we already keep our garbage can in the shop, but I know not everyone around here does.

  3. Maybe that answers the mystery poop question from before? Does a bear shit in the Bitterroot? Perhaps.

    1. That particular turd didn't look like bear scat, but I have seen others that I think might be. :)

  4. HA! I knew you'd see bears at your place. I want to know when you're going to see a CAT! Now that, I would love to see. From the safety of the house or car of course ;) Keep those cameras on ya at all times. You never when you'll spot another.
